Once you have decided on a character concept, it is time to begin actually creating the character. It is especially important to choose an Estate before beginning this section. Background and mannerisms can be worked out simultaneously and/or after this section. For explanation and description of these aspects of character creation, refer to this page.
General descriptions of each step can be found by clicking on the links.
I will be working with the character concept Weather for this example.
Step One: Assigning attributes
We start with 25 attribute points, with 5 Magic Points per attribute.
in-depth description of attributes
An explanation for each attribute: Aspect
Domain
Realm
Spirit
I want my character to be patterned after an amalgamation of Native American stories of the Thunder Bird. Since this is a mythical creature instead of human, Aspect must be at least 2. This costs 6 points.
I also want my character to have a very good control over his domain. So initially I try a Domain 5. This costs 15 points.
Since my character is mythical, I decide that they must have some Spirit. Thus, I initially try for Spirit 1, for three points. This uses up all but one of my attribute points, leaving me with Realm 0 (not powerful at all in the chancel!).
I put the one left over attribute point into an additional Magic Point for my Domain. Thus I have:
Aspect: | 2 | MP: | 5 |
Domain: | 5 | MP: | 6 |
Realm: | 0 | MP: | 5 |
Spirit: | 1 | MP: | 5 |
However, it occurs to me that Spirit is actually quite useful, since Spirit is what determines how many anchors you can have. So I decide to reduce my Domain by one point and raise my Spirit by one point so that I have three anchors (the number of anchors equals your Spirit plus one, so that every character has at least one anchor).
I also would like to have a few points left over for Gifts. Thus I reduce my Domain one more point, with the intention that it will be the first thing I raise with Experience Points. This leaves me with three points for gifts.
Thus the final distribution of Attribute Points looks like this:
Aspect: | 2 | MP: | 5 |
Domain: | 3 | MP: | 6 |
Realm: | 0 | MP: | 5 |
Spirit: | 2 | MP: | 5 |
Note: Some Gifts and Flaws may also be assigned during the Imperator Creation phase.
I plan to have my character be able to shapeshift between a large hawk - the Thunder Bird, so to speak - and a Native American man. Therefore two Gifts which make sense for the character are:
Shapeshifting: 1 pointFlight: 1 point. Note: Characters with Aspect 5 or higher do not need this as a gift
I also would like to have a few things that might help out in battle or elsewhere. Therefore I choose:
Durant: 1 point.
I have now used all of my Attribute Points, and can move onto Flaws. Instead of giving Points to use in return for Gifts, Flaws come into play during the game to give Magic Points when they get in your way. The number of Magic Points paid is related to how severe the flaw is.
All characters must have the Affiliation flaw. Associated with this is a Mission, which can be anything that fits with your character background, as long as it supports your Affiliation in some way.
Affiliation: The Light. Mission: Stop pollutionIn addition some other flaws that I choose for my character are:
Domain limit: Can control the weather, but finely tuned control is difficult. Can be summoned by the appropriate ceremony. 2 MP paid whenever it comes up.
Cannot use modern technology. 1 MP, but it comes up often.
Step Three: Bonds
I have three anchors, because my Spirit is 2. This means that I must put points into bonds for these three people. Other bonds go into things relevant for my character's Affiliation and Mission, and other things from the background that make for an interesting character.
Bond | Points | Comments |
---|---|---|
Joe | 3 | Native American chieftain |
Tara | 4 | Native American woman |
Bob | 1 | Weatherman |
Waterfall | 1 | (place in the mountains, high up) |
People | 2 | (general, and the Mission) |
Native amers | 4 | ("The People") |
Nature | 1 | (related to his Mission) |
Weather | 2 | (his Domain) |
Rainbow Crest | 1 | Given to him by Joe |
And that's it for Character Creation! There will be some alterations when the whole Family sits down to create the Imperator, but this is as far as we can go now (in terms of mechanics).
See the final character sheet, after Imperator Creation, with background.
